I’ve got a question,

why isn’t Macports the standard package manager for Mac OS?

I’m familiar with Debian and doing all via apt-get, so port is quite natural. Just this weekend I configured my macbook with (yeah, I’ve had it for 3-4 months but I had a Lego star wars addiction – don’t judge me!) ports, ruby, etc.

And I’m looking at it thinking, why do I now have Ruby installed twice, with two sets of gems? Why isn’t macports pre-installed and the ordained package manager?

I think Mac is great as a development platform, but with a universal package manager it could be awesome.
