I haven’t moved my laptop to Mac yet (drooling over a new mac book pro) but I have migrated the home PC to an iMac. Everything going well but a quick tip that should save a few £ up front.

To transfer emails and contact details from Outlook or Outlook Express on the PC to iMail on the Mac download and install Thunderbird on your PC. This will import all outlook emails into standard ‘mbox’ format and allow contacts to be exported as LDIF files both of which can be imported directly into the address book and iMail.

Great tip! Hmmm… wish I would’ve known that before.

One thing I found on my Windows box was that for very large Outlook mailboxes I was better off going from Outlook to Outlook Express and then to Thunderbird, rather than trying to have Thunderbird import Outlook directly. Mileage varies…

When I switched a few years ago, I used O2M (Outlook2Mac) and it worked flawlessly. It’s not free, but was worth the $10.

I don’t remember exactly the problems, but I ran into quite a few trying the other methods.
