Ok, my wife likes to tease me that I don’t read much “literature” anymore, so I decided to find my copy of Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash and re-read it after 10 years.

Thinking about his “Metaverse” today, it struck me…with Amazon’s EC2 computing cloud and rumors of Google leveraging their Earth app to create a social network/game world, my question is this: how soon before we experience the Metaverse?

i haven’t tried second life – i just can’t afford the time – but doesn’t that have the whole metaverse thing pretty much stitched up?

speaking of neal stephenson, i’m nearly at the end of the final book of the baroque cycle, and it’s bloody brilliant.
