Allright, this isn’t Rails specific but this IS the VENT forum so here I go…

I started a new job recently. I have a good machine but the monitor I have is a mere 17 inch variety. Coming from a dual 20 inch environment, I realized this needed a change. So when I inquired I was told that the started to order me a 20 inch, but someone who has been here a while demanded THEY get the new monitor instead (even though they have one of the newer ones already).

So, my solution to this is to buy my own monitor (I’ve gotten approval to bring in my own). So, what monitor can anyone suggest? Here is the ones I have my eye on:

Opinions? Is the 22 inch one worth the $70 more? Or am I going down the wrong path with a Dell? I will primarily be doing .NET development, spending my day mostly in Visual Studio.

Any advice is much appreciated!

EDIT: To fix the links.

I vote for a new job where they get you what you need! :)

But, assuming that’s not what your asking I’d go with the 22”, bigger is always better if you’re only going to have one monitor.

that sucks.

suggest you buy your own stuff and then put in an expenses claim. the accounting trolls will then query the claim, and bounce it back to your boss to deal with, who will hopefully get the message.

I’m with Steve. Bigger == better when it comes to monitors. My business partner has the Dell 22” (a steal at less than $300) and most happy with it.

You’re not getting any extra resolution on the 22, just a bigger pixel pitch. All other things being equal – and in this case they are, except for price – I’d actually think seriously about going with the 20 (assuming your eyes are good enough that fine print isn’t an issue). If you can afford to move up to the 24 and get the higher resolution, or put two 20s side by side, I’d do that before I’d go to the 22 just to get larger pixels but same resolution.

If you do go Dell, price it twice – go in once via the “home” link on their home page and once via “small business”. They quite frequently have the same monitor at two different prices, and they’re not all that fussy about who’s a small business if you put on a halfway convincing front.
